Another Barn and March's Hello Moon

Here is the latest barn pattern from the Bee in My Bonnet's Barn Along.  The 6 1/2 inch quilt block pattern is a 36 patch...and yes, that means those are 1 inch finished squares...kind of fun to use up some scraps but she is making me re-think my choice of color scheme..would have liked this to be more scrappy!!  But I tried to play with the yellow a bit...She has also started to add a border around the barns so that they are 16 1/2" instead of 14 1/2"...I am waiting a bit to do that as I am wanting to see her setting choice.

And here is my version of  April's latest Hello Moon...

Lots of time left to join us, these blocks go quick...and our moons are lonely in the Flickr group...come add yours!!

Hexies

So I have been busy making hexies and watching college basketball...a good match it seems...

I have a bit of this:

Jane from Jane's Fabrics and Quilts has launched a new set of hexie templates that I really wanted to try so I ordered them up here

This is a picture of one from her blog since mine are all currently wrapped up in fabric, lol!!

And this is her description of them...
They are not made of paper but of a heat resistant plastic.
They are laser cut.
Perfect edges.
Hole in the middle for your pin. Able to withstand ironing.
Fit perfectly together.
AND
can be used over and over again!

My description:
I am in love with them :)  I found this size to be perfect for the charm square pack I was using...I just cut the 5 inch charms into (4) 2 1/2 inch squares, nipped off the corners and made hexies!

Sorry for the low quality photos...our power went out for awhile here this evening...For inquiring minds, I like to use hand quilting thread for the basting...it's nice and thick so easy to remove once they are all sewn together...

The template plastic is easier, in my opinion to sew hexie to hexie because I have a tendency to sew through the paper on that step if using paper templates.  It was easy to feel where to stitch with these but they are flexible enough to bend as you stitch.

I am making good progress on this project, but I could not resist a couple just-for-fun fussies...

If you are looking for my post for the Stitch Me Up Blog hop it's here (psst...giveaway ending soon!) and the rest of the schedule can be found here

Stitch Me Up Blog Hop

Here we go again people!!!  Another fun hop that I managed to wriggle my way into...

 Sew we quilt

Thanks go to Mdm Samm and Jane for hosting and cheer-leading this stitching party and for providing such fun patterns from these designers... Debbie, Cyndi, and Mdm Samm.

Thanks also to Colonial Needle for being such a generous sponsor!

I am a big fan of the outline backstitch so I chose to make a redwork stitchery from one of the cute patterns that Mdm Samm designed and provided...a wee bitty girl...I took the pattern and reduced it down to 5 inches...

And I added her to a friendship bag.

I quilted the bag with straight stitches...

Here she sits on my candy scale - I'm guessing that's chocolate she has behind her back!!  But knowing the designer as we do, I suppose it's more likely a cup of coffee?

I used this free pattern and tutorial from Rachel Griffith at  her ps i quilt blog to make the bag. It went together quickly and with no fuss, I really liked the boxy corners :)

I added an inch to the height of the bag and scaled down the stitchery pattern to 5 inches tall to fit in the panel space.

She is now a friendship bag that I gave to my friend Cheryl as a pick me up after having pneumonia...I may or may not have stuffed it with fabric...just sayin'...

Now, I have been remiss in having a giveaway the last several hops but I have a small one for this hop if you would like.  We are still in the 20's and seeing the occasional (snow) flake so Spring fabric seems a good choice...  No hoops to jump - just comment below and I will do a random drawing on the last day of the hop March 29th for a Moda Spring Meadow charm pack.  No reply bloggers please list your email to be eligible!!

Please be sure to visit the others on this day of the hop! And find all the others on the rest of the scheduled days at Sew We Quilt or Jane's Fabrics and Quilts

FRIDAY March 22nd

Because I Can Always Make Time For a Moon-Along

April at her Making Ends Meet blog has given us the next Hello Moon QAL block so I set out to make it this morning...just as cute as the first, and nice to revisit these cute easy blocks as I enjoyed the Hello Sun one a lot...I am working on setting my Suns top...I had a mishap with some stitch and flip triangles and am trying to decide how to um..."make it work"...lol!!

Here is my first Moon block...
If you need a quick project between some of your others, this sure is coming out cute so far, come join us :)

Barn # 3

Still working on barns, this is from Bee in my Bonnet's Barn QAL and she called this block Farm Fresh Flower.  You can find the tutorial here if you want to join us :)  This is actually her second tutorial and below was her first...

I did this last one as my first because I wanted to do a nine patch, I may need to add another to get a churn dash in if that isn't in her plan...I am not used to being ahead in these things but I am on 3 even though there have been only 2 patterns so far...probably won't last!!  These are quick to make and give you a 14 inch finished block.

I like the way they are looking together so will probably stay with this general color scheme.

Weekend Stuff

So I got all my 10 inch squares cut to mail off the Kaffe Fassett Shot Cotton Swap (there are still a couple spots left if you want in) this weekend...

I spent Saturday with friends at The Gathering of Quilters and was oh so good...I only bought this measuring tape fat quarter and some DMC wool floss!!  Karen Witt gave the lecture and had a lot of interesting information to share on reproduction quilts.  I really enjoyed looking at the embellishing that she is doing on a wool BOM project.  A link to her site can be found at the Gathering link above if you want to check out her work.

I am following with interest many of the posts on Google Reader disappearing, does this affect those of us that mostly just use the dashboard in Blogger?

If You Like it Better Stick A Pin On It...

Ok...Beyonce I am not...

But I saw this Bee embroidery....and I really didn't need a pillow...but a pin cushion....o yeah!!

Can you see all the french knots on his back...love!!!

This cute little guy is part of the Echinopops and Aster Honeycomb Stitchalong.

I chose to play but I colored outside the lines and made a pincushion instead...the pillow is really cute though and you still have time to join in.  You can find more info by clicking the link above.

I have a thing for bees...my husband tends two hives in our orchard...

but I am allergic to certain stings and since I am not a fan of  having a Popeye arm...ask me how I know...I steer clear from the hives!!

Nancy Drew is a Clue Blog Hop

Hey All!! Thanks for dropping by for my day for the Nancy Drew Blog Hop

Thanks to Mdm Samm and Carol for giving me a chance to share in this fun hop!

I decided to use some of the wonderful book spines fabric from this line in my project as well as the very popular X Plus block...

This was my inspiration for my project, these are my blocks for my month in the Modern Stash Bee I belong to on Flickr...

Since I have this block on my brain for March it inspired me to create this mini quilt "X Marks The Spot"

As you can see, I photographed it on my library card catalog...yes, you read that right, I have an old library card catalog cabinet in my kitchen...had a nook built for it when we built the house actually...

I copied the silhouette from the book spine so Nancy could search for her clues...lots of x's and spots for her to uncover in this block!!

Thanks for visiting me today and be sure to visit with the others sharing today with me...

Oh Baby!

I have a cousin expecting a little girl soon and when I saw this pattern, I knew it would be perfect!  She requested butterflies which are in some of the fabrics and I quilted the x's to resemble butterflies...imho...

Ok, I buckled down and did the "assigned block" for this QAL this afternoon...you can find the pattern here from Lori Holt of Bee in my Bonnet

I have really been enjoying looking at all the barns on flickr!
