T is for Cardinal

The month of March has slipped away from me on the sewing front.  Lots of goings-on just not much that was sewing related!

I did manage to finish the "T" block in Buttermilk Basin's free Wool applique BOM Let It Snow...

I like how she chose to feature the girlie cardinal though I am not sure my wool choices are quite spot on.  I am trying to work from my wool stash and not buy specifically for this project leaving her a bit more orange than I might prefer.
Here are the three blocks together...the LET in LET IT SNOW!

We are far from a snowy day today as it is sunny and to be 60 degrees F or so this afternoon.  I am not so far removed from that type of weather though as we drove through 1/2" to 3/4" hail on the way home from a family Easter gathering Sunday.

The trees and their buds continue to tell me to take heart, Spring is coming.

Have a happy day my friends!

March Progress on QALs

I am playing along with several Quilt Along opportunities right now and thought I would share where I am with each one so far...
This is month 2 of Buttermilk Basin's free 2016 wool applique BOM called Let it Snow.
This is my month 1 and month 2 blocks together.  I am using a woven Japanese fabric for the background and used wools mostly from my stash.  I did have to purchase some red wool for the letters as I didn't have big enough red pieces in my stash to spell Let it Snow.  Buying online - I didn't guess correctly on which red to go with. Since my backgrounds will be scrappy I think I will go for the dark red as the letter S to match the letter L and use the brighter one for the other letters...I bought the bright red wool through Primitive Gatherings.
This is my current progress on my Sarah Fielke BOM, I need to applique several more wreath blocks, the arcs are appliqued down already but I need to add leaves.  I like the stripey wreath arc a lot and am adding in warm color print leaves to coordinate with the rest of the blocks.
Lastly, I am joining in with my friend Patty's Elm Street Quilts Bargello QAL and thought I would use a bit of my hoarded Chicopee stash to make a mini which Patty calls a Baby B.

Wandering Camera - Month 2

It is time to link up again with my friend Soma's  series Wandering Camera.   Be sure to follow the link and check out all her wonderful tips, this month she shares some great ones on ISO settings.

Many of these pictures were taken on my walk this morning, though a few were taken throughout the last month...

This was the scene last weekend...Spring is coming, yay!! So I painted my toenails all ready for some flip flop weather...but I got a flip to the weather instead...
And winter came back...
It's pretty but I had to put my freshly painted toes back into my boots to trek the morning walk again.
The sky has been overcast but I can see the sun trying to bring back our warmth.
Grapes seem to be soldiering on despite the white blanket.
My walking buddy Sam likes to kick up the snow and you can see a bit of snow on that nose of his :)
This tree has a story, I think it must have supported another for many years.

 My favorite bench is covered.
Kitty Kitty in her natural habitat, a warm quilt formed into a careful nest.
You can see the buds are ready for Spring even through the snow.
The squirrels are tucked up tight in their nests.
Thanks for wandering along with me today and make sure to wander with all the others linking up at:

In the Garden BOM - Month 2, Carol's Design

The next two free blocks in the In the Garden Block of the Month hosted by Amy of Sew Incredibly Crazy have been released!  They are designed by Carol of Just Let Me Quilt and you can find the patterns here.

Carol let me take an early sneaky peek and these are my blocks:

I am using a combination of  Calico Days by Lori Holt of Bee in My Bonnet received from Riley Blake to use in this QAL mixed in with several other Riley Blake fabrics from my stash.

Thank you Carol for giving us a great pieced block to play with as well as an applique block full of busy adventure in the garden!

In addition to the fun in making these patterns, there are prizes to be had with this QAL, go to Carol's and/or Amy's blog to get the details for this month.

Last month we made two blocks from Amy's design, you can find the patterns by visiting her blog.

I am fortunate to be included in this talented group of designers and my design month will be August :)
