30 Blocks in 30 Days Blog Hop with Creatin' In The Sticks

I chose to make a baby quilt using this pattern with a layer cake and a bit of background yardage...


 Sorry it isn't a great picture the wind was horrible and the sun was hiding when I was trying to take this!!


I almost like the back as much as the front...I used all the extra 10 inch squares from the layer cake to make a pretty and scrappy backing.

Small, Smaller, Smallest Blog Hop

Welcome to my day for the Small, Smaller, Smallest Blog Hop.  Many thanks to Carol for hosting this fun show and tell :)  I have deviated a bit from my normal quilty projects for this one as the directions were to make something small.  I toyed with the idea of making a bag but a few things stepped in my way this last month which prevented that from happening so I thought I would share a Punch Needle Rug project I played with this last month to open up my creativity...


 This is the front side...

(Normally rug hookers would consider this the front side but with this design's use of thin stems, it is the back in this case.)

I loved the pattern by AROUNNA KHOUNNORAJ and the wool and wool blend yarns were beautiful to punch with :)  I am a fan of the oxford punch needle and think it was much easy and faster than the rug hooking I have tried before.  This designer sees this side as the finished but rug hookers would typically use the other side.  This design with it's thin stems is easier to see with this thickness of yarn on the "reverse" side from normal.  It is hanging in my quilt room enjoying a place of honor among my minis.

This is the February box for https://thecraftersbox.com/ .  I have never tried a subscription box before but this one struck me as different as you get a pile o' supplies and a video instruction for something different in the Art world.  I am pretty stuck on quilting as my game so it was good to step out and try something new.  This is not really an advertisement for them as I am not an affiliate or anything, just a customer -but I was pleased with this box and love the fact that I got to try something new :)

Put A Little Love in Your Quilt Blog Hop

What fun, what fun...we are blog hopping again :)  Love to "sew and tell" with friends!  

 This hop is hosted by my friend Carol at Just Let Me Quilt and she is the hostess with the mostess, oh yes she is :)

She asked that we share a project or projects with a heart on it...

And here are mine...

First up a mug rug with English Paper Pieced wings (2 inch jewel shape) and a wool body...I have been making the jewels with my red and pink scraps but a quilt top is a long way off...
And, this is a heart pinnie I made from some wool scraps and a Japanese woven fabric strip I had leftover from a prior quilt.  I love that this project basically takes scraps lying around and makes something useful and pretty!


First I chose the colors for my hearts, then I cut them from my wool scraps just like when we made valentines in elementary school...fold in half and cut!
Then I picked how many hearts I wanted on my pincushion and what design they would be placed in.  For my pinnie, I chose three as that is how many are in my small family...Momma heart, Daddy heart, and little guy...yes, I am still reliving elementary school, aren't I??!! (oh my, I think I am pretty glad my 17 yo son doesn't read my blog, lol!!)
 
Anyway, then it is time to choose applique threads, I love to applique wool with a blending color of wool thread and let the wool applique shine rather than the stitches.
I chose to add a piece of felt to help back my pin cushion top layer since I am using a woven background.  This will help the pins stand proud.  

 I sewed the three layers together with a small opening to turn it right side out...
 I use a wooden stuffing stick to help turn inside out and I fill with plastic beads.  Ladder stitch the turning opening closed and you are ready to use your new pinnie!

I will leave you with my Corgi from Fluffmonger's pattern...he does have a heart after all...

All the Things

I am having trouble with focus...yes, I am...so many cute new things on the internet to make and do...it is hard to stay on task and clean my sewing room and finish projects started...

Like this Corgi kit which arrived late last week...I had to drop everything and make him yesterday...
 He is a free Fluffmonger pattern...but oh my, the fleece she sends if you buy the kit - it was a dream to work with.  The pattern was very easy to follow and the kit I just cannot praise enough, wonderful natural fleece material to work with and the way she cuts and layers and places the fabric pieces in the box....it just guaranteed success. Even the way the box opened flat, I was able to use it to pin the material down onto it to trace the pattern easily.   
He is supposed to be a bit more fit, able to hug his heart...I may have stuffed him a bit chubbier than the design calls for but I love him anyway.

Temperature Quilt A Long

I had admired the Temperature Quilts that Mary from Needledmom and her sister made last year...Check them out here, so interesting to see the differences in a quilt from California and Alaska!  Mary suggested a QAL this year and so I am IN!

Anyway, I have been wanting to play with a solids quilt and this seems like a fun thing to try...of course I am bending the rules already and am doing HST's instead of the  square in a square blocks they are doing.  I chose a 2 inch finished size and raided my stash for solids to create the temperature range.
 Most don't have labels...should be interesting if I run out of a certain shade!!  :)
This is the first 9 days of January here in northeast Indiana.  

As a sidenote, Fat Quarter Shop had a generous sale on a wool pressing pad and I am trying it out today.  You can see it above, I think I am a fan!

A Beautiful Gift

I struggled a bit to get pictures that fully show the beauty of a package that my friend Soma sent to me...it has not kept me from using them though!
She made me some gorgeous mitts from the warmest color of yarn awhile ago...then she surprised me with  a beautiful hat to match.  I had an idea I was getting the hat (cozy and toasty and quite beautiful on my head in these negative temperatures we have been having) but it was a complete surprise when she shared this beautiful table runner and napkin set.  They are so well stitched, she has such a talent for cross stitch.  I need her to share how she got such perfect round berries too, I wish you all could look at this in person, it is just wonderful.


Thank you friend for sharing your beautiful talents with me, I will treasure them. I think they pair well with my grandma's Christmas ornaments and her carnival glass bowl :)

You didn't know but I have been playing a bit with cross-stitch too...it does not compare to your beauty, but I have been getting the hang of it...this is a Frosted Pumpkin pattern
