A Bee block Challenge

So I am a member of a Flickr Bee group called Beejeebers full of talented ladies...Joelle was this month's queen bee and the block she chose to have us make was a word from a list she had assembled to describe her small grandaughter using the book Word Play Quilts by Tonya Ricucci.  I had purchased this book last year so this was a good chance to pull it out and try the technique.
This book is inspired by Gwen Marston's work and I was lucky enough to get a chance to take one of her classes...not sure if it helped with this block or not...I struggle a bit to be free form and like things orderly...I was an engineer not so long ago, guess it still shows...

I chose the word "CARING" from her list...

The thing I found most challenging was keeping within the size envelope she chose...ahem...it is supposed to be 4.5" by 12.5" and this is around 5" by 13".  It can definitely be cut down but I thought I'd let her decide how she would like it done...I used Kona School Bus for the background.  Hope you like it Joelle!!

Did you have to design the letters yourself? Love that orange.

Looks free form to me. Was the school bus fabric in honor of PU? Will you be posting when the quilt is done. That is one I would like to see.

Not bad for free form letters. What a neat idea for a quilt!
