What is Your Superpower Stitching Hop - My Day!

Today is my day to show and tell for the What is Your Superpower Stitching Hop...

Thanks again to the wonderful Mdm Samm for her inspiration and guidance through all these fun hops this year and thanks to the lovely Pauline for organizing, cheering and making this one a complete success :)

I thought about this one for about 5 seconds before coming up with my entry for this hop...

What is Your Superpower?

Hmmmm....

My Superpower is Coloring Outside the Lines!!

Yes, this is where I admit that I have a bit of a lot of trouble following a pattern...I often feel the need to change it up and make it mine...sometimes this results in a wonderful finish...sometimes I end up in a bit of a pickle because I over complicate the project or confuse myself ...but it always results in a finish I can call my own, for the good or bad!

So-
 this was my starting point...

I hand embroidered the words in Perle DMC floss and then got out some lovely 12 weight wool Aurifil thread in complimentary colors to the Kaffe Fassett border print I used...

Ah...yes...could have stopped here...this looks nice...
 Ahhhh...this is more like it...

So here is my finished flimsy top 12" x 17" with the lines backstitched and hand embroidered in...all scribbly-like...

framed

I decided to frame it to hang alongside my other minis in my sewing room...sorry, not the best pictures...between the wind and snow it has been a poor week for photos but you get the idea.
I have made all of these minis for past Sew We Quilt blog hops other than the "Sew" one with the arrows which was made by Emily aka Emedoodle ,who I was lucky enough to have as a swap partner this year...thanks again for an awesome mini Emily...it looks great with the others :)

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you'll take the time to visit these great bloggers I share the day with today...

I love someone who colors outside the lines. I am someone who follows the pattern to the letter. So much so that even when I'm convinced there is an error, I'm not brave enough to trust myself that the error is an error. Your superpower mini is adorable and looks wonderful amid your other creations. Thank you for sharing all your creations. I admire your creativity and your courage to do so. Thanks for hopping.

Awesome super power. I bet you are a fun person to be around! Does your super power apply to all the other parts of your life too? We all need a friend who helps us embrace coloring outside the lines of life! And I love your mini and your mini wall!!

Too cute, and I so love your wall of inspiration!

That was a cute idea. I think I color outside the lines too often too. My husband doesn't understand why I just can't follow the original directions. "Why do you have to change something?" When I do follow the directions, I'm not always happy with it either. Oh well.... Nice mini's on the wall too.

What a great superpower. I share it to some extent, but not to the abandon that you apparently do. Go, go, girl.

LOVELY! The first part of that superpower is self-confidence and, a little, I think, bravery. Great super power, cute project.

And a good superpower it is, Kris! Looks like the perfect choice to showcase it too.

I tend to stick with a pattern somewhat and then only if the process makes sense to me. Like you, sometimes that is good, and other times, LOL, not so much.

Love coloring outside of the lines, pattern, what pattern.

Charlene McCain said...

I tweak tried and true patterns just a tad to make them my own, too. I like a bit of my personality to shine through. Your personality definitely shines brightly in your Super Power mini quilt! Love the colors and the meandering lines.

Kris, I love your idea! I also loved watching that progression from thread to the yarn. I really like the spools against it as well, too bad they couldn't stay. If I had done one, that would have been my superpower too :)

Gmama Jane said...

SUPER great power to have...the ability to live life OUT of the box, and across the lines...BE YOUR OWN PERSON!! No one quite like Madame Samm to bring that type of creativity in all of us, wouldn't you agree?

Wendy said...

OH MY GOSH Kris!!! I love, love, love your project!!! Truly superb superpower design ... :) I like your collage of minis too ... they are so cute and very happy to look at in one place. Thank you so much for sharing!

Hi Kris-Love your little mini(s). When I saw your blog, the snow and your reporting of the rapid temperature changes, it reminded me of something my mother used to say. She and Dad were born and raised in the Mid-west and moved to California before I was born. She used to say, "if you don't like the weather in California, wait awhile and it will change!." Well I gues you can say that about many places in the US lately. Thanks for sharing.

That is a superpower to be proud of! To be able to resist the pressure to be the same as everyone else, you are unique and creative! Love the display of treasures you enjoy looking at every day!

Another great project to add to the wall. Love your superpower - I have a bit of that myself. Sometimes those corners I paint myself into, then need my superpower to kick into gear to get myself out!!
