Week 7 - Churn Dash Blocks

I love so many of Jen Kingwell's designs and when I heard there would be a SAL using her sampler pattern Long Time Gone of all machine pieced blocks, I decided I needed to play along.

These are my version of the blocks for this week, Churn Dash:

These are pictures of a couple of the individual tiny churnies before assembly into the above blocks...so much fun to pick the fabrics for these!

One Monthly Goal April Finish

My goal this month was a continuation of an ongoing quilt project for me called Colfax County:

 

My next step was to make more star blocks and my goal for this month was to complete the other 12 of these 24 total (12 inch) needed star blocks.

 
I  made it, here they are, all 24 star blocks are now finished, yay!

Just for fun here are a couple pictures of my son's Canstruction project.  He and a group from his high school built a local landmark from cans to support the food bank.

Long Time Gone - Week 6 Plus a Star Block

I love so many of Jen Kingwell's designs and when I heard there would be a SAL using her sampler pattern Long Time Gone of all machine pieced blocks, I decided I needed to play along.

This is my version of the block for this week, Plus a Star Block:

 This was a fun block to make with interlocking plus shapes and a star in the mix.

A bit of fussy cutting as well as just a lot of fun color interplay with this one...it looks a bit of a mess but looks really good when set in with the other blocks.

Long Time Gone SAL - Week 5 Trip Around the World

I love so many of Jen Kingwell's designs and when I heard there would be a SAL using her sampler pattern Long Time Gone of all machine pieced blocks, I decided I needed to play along.

This is my version of the block for this week, Trip Around the World:

 There are 139 pieces in this seam-heavy 12 inch block...no strip piecing for me, I wanted lots of variety in the background...

I had fun playing in this colorway...lots of choices in my stash of fabrics.

This block is a bit thick with all the many seams even though I did press them open...

 These are some of my daffodils, they are a bit weary as they have weathered some storms.

And a small hyacinth that shows up every spring.

 Asparagus makes a good snack on my morning walks!

 My chickens wondering why I have my camera and not a snack for them!!

One Monthly Goal - April 2017

I am sorry, dear readers, that you may find this goal a bit repetitive...truth be told, so do I!!

I have had such good luck linking to OMG this year, thanks for the motivation Patty!  I was able to complete my January, February, and March goals so I am going to join in again this month.

My project this month is a continuation of a quilt project for me called Colfax County:

 

Last month's goal was to complete 12 of the necessary 24 star blocks.  So, you guessed it, I would like to declare my goal for this month to complete the other 12 of the 24 needed star blocks. 

Here are the first 12, finished.  I am loving the variety in the hues and prints of the blues:

...and, yes, those are 1" finished hst's.

Shenandoah Valley Botanical Quilt, Rose of Sharon

Happy April 1st!

This is a project I am hoping to finish this year, my top is sewn but I am spacing out my block reveal to follow along with the sew-along.   I am hoping to get my top sandwiched and quilted soon.  I am sewing along with the Shenandoah Valley Botanical Quilt project - the pattern is provided by the Virginia Quilt Museum and all pattern sales benefit the museum. Dawn, from Collector with a Needle, and Doreen, from Aunt Reen’s Place, are hosting a quiltalong for this quilt, here.

The pattern size as provided by the museum easily makes 9 inch blocks. I am doing mine in wool so that I can make that size (8 1/2" finished), many are enlarging the pattern and all the participant's resulting blocks are well worth a look...so pretty!

This is my version of the block chosen for April, Rose of Sharon:

This block had lots of tiny bits, I love the Rose of Sharon plant and we are blessed with a large "hedge" of them bordering our garage.  I looked for a photo to show but came up empty - I will have to wait until this summer :)
