Long Time Gone Week 3

I love so many of Jen Kingwell's designs and when I heard there would be a SAL using her sampler pattern Long Time Gone of all machine pieced blocks, I decided I needed to play along.

The details can be found here at  http://www.gnomeangel.com/week-1-long-time-gone-sew-along-bow-tie-block/ if you would like to join in the fun.

These are my versions of the block for this week, Crosses of the UK:

These little sweetie blocks are 4" finished but are pretty easy to construct and it was fun to pick out the color combos.  Now that I am looking at the picture, looks like I need to trim the "whiskers" off the edges :)

One Monthly Goal March Finish

My goal this month was a continuation of an ongoing quilt project for me called Colfax County:

My next step was to make star blocks and my goal for this month was to complete 12 of these 24 (12 inch) needed star blocks.

This was an ambitious goal for me as my son's Spring Break falls in March and I am doing a large bit of secret sewing right now...lots of irons in the fire right now actually...and, yes, those are 1" finished hst's.

But, here they are finished, yay!
Sorry for the perfectly awful photo, they are all there but our soggy dreary windy weather doesn't allow for a pretty group shot.

Long Time Gone SAL Week 2

I love so many of Jen Kingwell's designs and when I heard there would be a SAL using her sampler pattern Long Time Gone of all machine pieced blocks, I decided I needed to play along.

The details can be found here at  http://www.gnomeangel.com/week-1-long-time-gone-sew-along-bow-tie-block/ if you would like to join in the fun.

This is my block for this week, Square in a Square Stars:

I went with a warm palette and lots of AMH, Kaffe, and Tula prints for this one.

BTW: It has occurred to me that the rest of the blocks in this sal sure have a lot of pieces!!    :)

Happy St. Patrick's Day and National Quilting Day

I am sewing slow today :(

No, it wasn't a rotary cutter it was a knife I was using in the kitchen.  I won't show you any pictures of the wound but I think this will slow me down for awhile.  Turns out I should be using my reading glasses for more than just reading and sewing.

Have a good day my friends.

Long Time Gone SAL Week 1

I love so many of Jen Kingwell's designs and when I heard there would be a SAL using her sampler pattern Long Time Gone of all machine pieced blocks, I decided I needed to play along.
The details can be found here at  http://www.gnomeangel.com/week-1-long-time-gone-sew-along-bow-tie-block/ if you would like to join in the fun.

These are my blocks for this week photographed in our latest snow:

Bow Tie:

The pesky wind flipped the corner of the block on the right and the snow makes the light corners difficult to see but I am going with this photo because I am hoping this will be my last snow shot as we are getting so close to Spring!!

I used some of my all-time favorite prints (Chickopee, Loulouthi, Hope Valley,Prince Charming, Architextures, Vanilla Grunge, Mama Said Sew) for these blocks and plan to continue that trend throughout the top as I sew.

One Monthly Goal - March 2017

This is my third time linking to OMG
this year, thanks for the motivation Patty!  I was able to complete my January and my February goals so I am going to join in again this month.

My project this month is a continuation of a quilt project for me called Colfax County:

My next step is to make star blocks as I now have the triangle pieces finished from last month's goal.  I would like to declare my goal for this month to complete 12 of the 24 needed star blocks.

Here is my first star, finished.  I am loving the variety in the hues and prints of the blues:

This will be an ambitious goal for me as my son's Spring Break falls in March and the mild weather has me out and about more than usual for this time of year...and, yes, those are 1" finished hst's.

Shenandoah Botanical Quilt - Jacob's Ladder

This is a project I am hoping to finish this year, my top is sewn but I am spacing out my block reveal to follow along with the sew-along.   I am hoping to get my top sandwiched and quilted this winter.  I am sewing along with the Shenandoah Valley Botanical Quilt project - the pattern is provided by the Virginia Quilt Museum and all pattern sales benefit the museum. Dawn, from Collector with a Needle, and Doreen, from Aunt Reen’s Place, are hosting a quiltalong for this quilt, here.

The pattern size as provided by the museum easily makes 9 inch blocks. I am doing mine in wool so that I can make that size (8 1/2" finished), many are enlarging the pattern and all the participant's resulting blocks are well worth a look...so pretty!

This is my version of the block chosen for March, Jacob's Ladder:
