More Slow Stitching Happenings

I had some time yesterday to get my next 2 "favorite things" baskets done...above is my sunflower.  I meant to take a picture of our sunflowers to post with this, my son always plants a nice variety and I love the colors and the crazy heights :)  My favorite might still be the little shorty ones though!

This one is to give homage to my favorite Doctor...because 4 will always be my Doctor :)

I found this great case in Shipshewana when we were there last, perfect for 6 in block WIPs...might need a few more...

 And I finally got a start on this EPP project.  I am using the glue basting technique with Elmers washable glue stick...very fast...I think I am a fan!

My son starts school next week so we were out picking up supplies.  This mysteriously jumped in the cart-it matches my Tula project!  Who knew they were putting quilt designs on notebooks?

The pattern for the baskets can be found at Sentimental Stitches though the innards are coming from my head (the sunflower was from a pattern by Primitive Gatherings called Little Buds)

Still Playing with Little Wool Baskets

So I think I like where this is headed :)   

I am using a free basket pattern from Sentimental Stitches.  I believe it can be found in the Members Only tab as I received it in a newsletter.  It lends itself quite well to wool applique.

I am prepping a few of these to take along as a handwork project as soccer season begins today with practice.

I think I will fill these baskets with a few of my favorite things as I started with the spools of thread.  I have a few ideas of what will be inside but I think I will just see where it takes me :)

The weather here is finally hot and July-ish now that we are nearing the end of July.  I wonder what August will be like?

A New Pattern and some Wool + Embroidery

Hi All!!  I have been experiencing enough nerve pain lately to keep me from the sewing machine but it didn't keep me from playing with needle and 12 weight thread and a bit of embroidery...still trying to decide if this will be one of many.

What about baskets of our favorite things?  Sounds like a fun QAL.

The basket is a free pattern from Sentimental Stitches but I think you need to sign up for the free newsletter to get it.  The spools are just me playing with my favorite embroidery thread...

 Yes, I would rather have a box of this than chocolates at Valentines Day...and last February, that's just what he did  :)

A bit of Spiral Quilting

 I used my friend Patty's tutorial to do a bit of spiral quilting on the bright baby star quilt...

I think it turned out pretty good but I need to work on perfecting the inner spiral.  I tried to use my walking foot but would definitely use the free motion foot for the center in the future.

This is a great pattern for donation quilts, it was a quick sew and the spiral quilting compliments the star well :)

And....she's back...

Hmmm...awkward transition, been awhile, eh?

No excuses, I just really needed a bloggy and yes, sewing break.  I don't know why but today is the day to break my silence.  

Missed reading all your blogs, missed your comments, inspiration and your friendship.

I am sewing again too as of today, saw this tutorial come up and knew it would be perfect for a bit of stash-busting and charity quilt sewing.  This is an older line from Sandy Gervais called Fresh Squeezed.  In the background you can see our tiny corn in the field...not a great farm year so far, too cool and wet.

I am still debating as to how to quilt it but it will be a quick sew as it is only 38 inches square.

 This is my newest machine though I need to take it in for repair...

 I inherited it from my Grandma who recently passed.  She had promised it to me years ago as I am really the only one who sews in my family.  I adore that it came with the original bill of receipt (my Grandpa bought it for her at Montgomery Ward through layaway for Christmas in 1967).  For whatever reason, it did not come with the manual so I will have to do a bit of internet digging to find one at some point.  She had lots of buttons and sewing notions which I brought home too but it still feels a bit fresh to go through them yet :(

 I will leave you with this unflattering pic of me trying to figure out how to drive my husband's newest toy...he barters for things fairly often and this is his newest trade.  I think I should stick to sewing machines, though I did get it to go..ha!
