We Support You Blog Hop-My Day is Today!

A great big thanks to PAT from Scrapatches and to Mdm Samm of Sew We Quilt and Sew We Stitch  as well for including me in this hop.  We all know someone battling Cancer... this hop is for all of THEM...

My mother was diagnosed and treated for early stage breast cancer last year so I am well aware of the heartache, struggle, courage and bravery involved in this fight.  Thankfully, my mom did well with her surgery and treatment and is continuing to do well now.  I pray for that outcome for everyone faced with this disease.

My project utilizing Mdm Samm's sweet bra applique pattern is a tote bag / book bag.  The pattern can be found here:
The "We Support You" Friendship Quilt Pattern is available
for purchase for $12.00 by emailing Madame Samm directly
Using my new learned skill from our last hop, box pleats and a re-purposed ribbon or two I made a small version of the bra.
And added it to some sturdy duck cloth folded and sewn into a tote bag with wooden handles.
Sorry for the awful sewing room photos, the weather has not cooperated and allowed me better outdoor options.

Now, for a chuckle...
my 14 year old son walked into the sewing room and found this "bra bag" and asked me "What are you going to do with this?  Are you going to *gasp* carry it in public?"
(translation: anywhere where I am or my friends might see)

I told him straight-faced that I thought it would make a great bag for his track shoes...ha!  He does not think his mother funny...hmmm...

Please be sure to visit all those on the list below that I share the day with and give them some comment love!!

  7. Oh, I like how you added the box pleats, they are adorable. And if I were you, I would tell your son, Yes, you made it especially for when you go out with him, lol. Funny how they always are afraid we will embarrass them in front of their friends.

  9. Gorgeous bag! Those boxpleats look very professional! Loved the story about your son. It made me think. You could use that bag as a punishment..... Threatening him with the option of taking his track shoes in that bag might give you a lot of leverage! Just giving you an idea!

  32. Those little box pleats are the cutest thing! Maybe you could add a few to his track shoes so they'd be matchy-matchy! ... lol ... Very often I ask my adult son, who is an engineer and has a great eye for line and color, about his opinion on a WIP. Not this time. He walked through and would gaze over while I was auditioning several fabric, trims and ideas and I looked up one time and said, "No worries ... I am not going to ask you which pink trim looks best where on this one." He just nodded and looked relieved and went on his way.

I do love your bag. The contrast between the ruffly pink bra and the very functional white duck and wooden handles works very well. Thanks, Kris, for sewing your support with another inspiring project today ... :) Pat

  34. The box pleats are adorable on this, I like the extra depth it gives verses the padding. Thanks for sharing that with us

  35. Love your re-purposed ribbons and the box pleat is adorable on this bag. Had to giggle with you and your son... I took my project with me to stitch to one of my son's club nights. There is nothing to do there for me, and I didn't even consider the content of my project like I should have....kind of got the same reaction. HILARIOUS! Gotta love boys!

  42. Track shoes - too funny. Boys ares till embarrassed by bras??? I remember when I was in high school, TV ran the Playtex bra commercials on Friday and Saturday nights just when you were watching TV after the early movie with a date. I was always ready to go to the kitchen to get some refreshments. I've thrilled to hear your mother is doing well. Your family is in my prayers. Your tote bag is great and I love the box pleats. Thanks for sharing your stories and your creatie project.

I remember those days well and now that my children are adults, they can laugh as well. Not so much laughing at the time, but they get it now that they are parents. Thanks for sharing your creation with us! I wish your mom continued health.
