In Our Garden - Month 6

The next two limited time free blocks in the In the Garden Block of the Month hosted by Amy of Sew Incredibly Crazy have been released!  They are so cute and are designed by Joan of Moosestash Quilting!

 

I am using fabrics provided by Riley Blake for this QAL supplemented by some older Riley Blake fabrics from my stash.  The main fabric line I am using is Bee in My Bonnet's Calico Days.

 I left off the leaves from the pattern as I am thinking of my pink posies as representing carnations in memory of my Grandma...squint and you can see it, lol!!

Hiking in Ohio - Wandering Camera Edition

My family likes to sneak away to Ohio a few hours away to hike when we are having trouble scheduling a longer, more involved trip.  Yesterday was one of those days and we were able to take along my nephew this time.

 Too high boys...be careful!!

 My idea of a trail is this.

 I did manage to capture a bit of the beauty around us.

 It had rained before we arrived so the water show was pretty!

 There they go again, need to stash the camera, and catch up!

QAL Progress

 I am done with the word quilt using my friend Patty's paper pieced pattern from her QAL..   You can find her free QAL here for several more words and an option for a bigger quilt.

 I decided to add a churn dash to it to make a mini top...now to quilt it!!

I was also able to work on the week 3 blocks from Primitive Gatherings SBOW this weekend...these are so fun to play with!  I love the shading on their hand dyed wools, that mixing bowl just has such texture!  I think you can still join in on that one too here.

Shenandoah Valley Botanical Quilt - July Block Lily

I am sewing along with the Shenandoah Valley Botanical Quilt project - the pattern is provided by the Virginia Quilt Museum and all pattern sales benefit the museum. Dawn, from Collector with a Needle, and Doreen, from Aunt Reen’s Place, are hosting a quiltalong for this quilt, here.

The pattern size as provided by the museum easily makes 9 inch blocks. I am doing mine in wool so that I can make that size (8 1/2" finished), many are enlarging the pattern and all the participant's resulting blocks are well worth a look...so pretty!

This is my version of the block for July, labelled Lily:

 I wish you could feel this one :)  the texture on the layering is so much fun!

Here is one of my new distractions keeping me from getting much sewing in this summer - a 7 month old chocolate lab has joined our family.  His name was Zeb but we find he comes to us better if we say "Hey Buddy".
