I is for Snowflake

The month of April is soaring by pretty quick for me and not leaving much time for stitching and making a general lack of show on the sewing front.  Lots of goings-on just not much that was sewing related!

I managed to finish the "I" block and the bonus snowflake block in Buttermilk Basin's free Wool applique BOM Let It Snow...

I am now at Let I....in the Let it Snow...YAY!

Our pear trees in the garden are happy no real snow is in sight...check out those blooms!!

Shenandoah Valley Botanical Album Quilt - Tiger Lily

I am sewing along with the Shenandoah Valley Botanical Quilt project - the pattern is provided by the Virginia Quilt Museum and all pattern sales benefit the museum. Dawn, from Collector with a Needle, and Doreen, from Aunt Reen’s Place, are hosting a quiltalong for this quilt, here.

The pattern size as provided by the museum easily makes 9 inch blocks. I am doing mine in wool so that I can make that size, many are enlarging the pattern and all the participant's resulting blocks are worth a look...so pretty!

This is my version of the block labelled Tiger Lily...

I'm afraid that I have taken as much artistic license with this flower in color as the designer did with shape and it is a bit unrecognizable as a tiger lily but I adore it :)   In krislovesfabric world this is an ideal flower - I want this in my flowerbed please!

I really wanted to take a group photo outdoors but unfortunately the wind won't abate and I got tired of chasing them about the yard so I went with another kitchen shot.  The colors are much better than this photo indicate-promise!  Hopefully I will have better luck next month as I should have a pretty set of nine then!!

In the Garden - Month 3

In the Garden BOM - Month 3, Doris of Quilting Queen Online

The next two limited time free blocks in the In the Garden Block of the Month hosted by Amy of Sew Incredibly Crazy have been released!  They are designed by Doris  of Quilting Queen Online and you can find the patterns here.

I am using fabrics provided by Riley Blake for this QAL supplemented by some older Riley Blake fabrics from my stash.  The main fabric line I am using is Bee in My Bonnet's Calico Days.

These are my versions of this month's cute blocks:

As usual, I veered from the pattern a bit but tried to stay true to Doris' design.

As for my actual garden...Spring is still trying to emerge but a few plants are starting to grow and bloom...
Pie is in the future from this rhubarb.
The daffodils are trying to weather the snow and hail spurts we have experienced.
Our little orchard is beginning to bloom.
You can see my weeding has not reached the back beds yet...why do those weeds always grow so fast, no matter the weather??!!

Wandering Camera - Month 3

I can't believe it's already that time!  Time to link up again with my friend Soma's  series Wandering Camera.   Be sure to follow the link and check out all her wonderful tips, this month she shares some on taking pictures of wildflowers, something I look forward to in a few months??!!  Right now we are still dodging snow and hail a bit...it's in the forecast again for tomorrow!
A few of these pictures were taken on my walk this morning, and a few were taken throughout the last month...
Blooming is starting in our small orchard...hope these delicate flowers will be ok tomorrow in the snow forecasted!
My sweet mom-in-law gave me these little grape hyacinths a few years ago...they are looking a bit bedraggled due to the nasty weather we have been having but they are a nice burst of color to remind us Spring is coming!
The rhubarb is coming along nicely...I see a pie in our future :)

And here are my lions and tigers and bears  wolves...we went to my son's favorite animal santuary last month.  It is always amazing to see what animals people think they should own as pets...some of these stories are sad but they all seem so happy now.
 This guy is Mufasa.
They do have bears but my son's favorites are the wolves.
 Such a beautiful animal!

Thanks for wandering along with me today and make sure to wander with all the others linking up at:
