So I joined another Flickr swap Strawberry Pincushion Swap and of course, wanted to take a trial run of the Strawberry thing, having never made one...I used the tutorials Erin suggested. All went well, and I decided to make one that was "unripe" in texty fashion...I used a bit of my new fabric purchased from Hawthorne Threads...Tim Holtz Eclectic Elements...
And the strawberry went together well...it's about 2 inches long.
And I did a bit of embroidery on the wool felt top...
And then my 40ish eyes READ the strawberry...
Ahem....does my strawberry say disembowel? Never thought I'd write that on the blog...
I'm planning to make another more appropriate strawberry for the swap, lol!
Teehee Good thing you did a"practice" berry and took a minute to read it. I would need to put my reading glasses on!

It turned out really cute Kris! Love those fabrics.
ReplyDeleteLMAO!!!!
ReplyDeleteUmmm...I am thinking your partner may have been scared...very scared, lol! Cute strawberry tho!
ReplyDeleteI love that the strawberry has...interesting...words on it! (I'm also wondering who thought there was a huge market for fabric that said "disembowel"...and where I can get some of it for myself...)
ReplyDeleteVery cute strawberry just the same. ;)
ReplyDeleteSome of those text fabrics are funny. I have some from Taiwan, but the words are in English and there are a lot of misspelled words as well as sentences that don't quite make a lot of sense. You never know who will actually be reading those words though. But no matter what you use your fabric with the words disembowel, would you be happy with what you make or not? Perhaps an applique or embroidery stitch over certain words would help? You could embroider random seeds on your strawberry and make sure you stitch over that word so it's not so obvious? That way you can still use it.
ReplyDeleteHaha oh my, I'm surprised they printed that on the fabric. You'd think they'd use different pages from the dictionary. :) I probably never would have caught that. I'm sure all of your strawberries will be great and this one will be the most unique.
ReplyDeleteha ha ha...If you have my name in the swap, you can go ahead and send it to me. I would love to see all of the other words on there, too. Hilarious!
ReplyDeleteSo, so funny! blessings, marlene
