Baby Quilt Done

So I have been a good little finisher this week...the Elephant Parade quilt is off to Maryland to a sweet little guy cousin and this Flower Box baby quilt is done as of this afternoon as well.  Two finishes this week...YAY!
This is all the flowers you will see in my garden for quite awhile yet!!  I made this quilt using the tutorial from Bee in My Bonnet here.
Straight line organic quilting again, I know, big surprise :)

I used a pale pink Robyn Pandolph backing fabric I have probably had in my stash for 10 years.  I have done pretty well using stash lately for projects, maybe it's about time to think about a trip to the fabric store, ha!

Here We Quilt Again

So it was snowing this morning when we woke up...nothing is sticking to the ground thank goodness...but isn't it the first day of Spring? Really?  So what's a girl to do but pull out her Flower Box quilt top and get to quilting...tutorial for this top can be found at Bee In My Bonnet.

Elephant Parade Finished!

I am so happy to say that I finished the quilting on my small Elephant Parade quilt this afternoon.  You can find the pattern at Lorna's blog Sew Fresh Quilts here.

I used a common for me technique of organic straight line quilting and I like to think it reminds one of the lined school paper that I used to draw Ed Emberley animals on as a kid.
This is a shot as I worked on the final lines of quilting...

For the backing I chose a Saggy Baggy Elephant Golden Book print...
Detail shot of the wonky frog...just as I would have drawn him years ago...
Anyone who knows me is aware I sneak this dictionary print into most of my projects...her ear now has the definition of patchwork :)

This is a picture of the top yesterday when the wind was calmer...pictures are difficult again today as it is very windy...but look...no snow :)

Thanks again Lorna for such a fun pattern and great diversion in the last weeks of winter!!

A Bit of This, a Bit of That

I did a bit of sewing this weekend in between enjoying the sun and temps in the 50's...most of our snow is gone but we still have a few piles laying about...today is supposed to be *gasp* 68...

These are wool applique blocks and are part of Buttermilk Basin's free BOM Mystery QAL found here.
My son built a huge snowman back in February, so much heavy lifting he seems to have misplaced his coat???  When asked, he told me that coats were for the weak.  Really??!!
This is the poor guy now...appears that he is surrendering to the warmer temperatures and looks like he is in a holdup...and that carrot...ummmm...yeah...sorry, it's pretty gross!
I finally got started on my Have a Little Faith QAL blocks...I was stalled out for awhile trying to decide what color combo to use.  I decided to go with yellow golds and greys which is a favorite combo for me and very stash-busting friendly.
The patterns for these can be found at Stitchin' Tree Quilts.

Flower for Eleni

I was thankful today to work on a small special block...Jodi from Tales of Cloth has put out a call for hexi flowers to make a quilt for Rachel Hauser from Stitched in Color.  Rachel has just had a new baby girl named Eleni and there have been serious complications associated with the birth.  We have been praying for them, but it was so nice to be able to do something with my hands!!

I used all AMH fabrics as I know Rachel enjoys them and used my favorite fabric as the background square.
I mailed it this afternoon, hopefully it makes it to Australia safely and quickly!!

If you are on Instagram, there is a benefit auction this weekend for the Hauser family, details here.

Flowers in the Snow Again

These are the flowers for my parade...find the patterns for Lorna's sweet Elephant Parade here.
The snowy one is in my flower bed, hopefully the real thing will be planted there soon :)  We are experiencing temps in the 50s this week so the snow is leaving fast!!
Have a great day!

Organizing instead of Sewing

Yes, well...I would rather sew...but I am straightening up around here so I thought I would share the view behind the curtain...
This is the picture I showed last post of my design wall with Lorna's sweet Elephant Parade taking shape.

Well, here is the closet of mess behind that design wall...
Maybe since I have posted it, it will shame me to clean it up, lol!!

I now have a carrot that has been offered to me to entice me to finish my work.   I ordered and received this new little beauty for my WIPs...
Yep...I already loaded up the Snapshots WIP  :)

I am spending today sorting small scraps, how small do you keep them anyway??

This is where I am at so far...
I bought this cute little trashcan...
With a removable liner and dumped in a large pile of scrappy stuff...
Then I have been pulling from this and cutting squares and strips and throwing them in silverware organizer trays...
I'll admit that I am getting tired of sorting and probably need to do this in stages.  Some of these ideas came from Lori Holt at Bee in My Bonnet.

A bit of Sewing amidst a Mess of Cleaning

I have been trying to use my makeshift flannel design wall for the Elephant Parade QAL blocks (find the patterns here)...but my stash is behind those doors, lol...so they are a bit mussed from my peeking in the closet too much!!
This week's pattern was this cute red bird!  Wouldn't a full quilt of these just yell Spring?!
I also put a test block together from the pattern by Blossom Heart Quilts featured on Sew Mama Sew to see if there was interest to make a quilt from them within my small quilt group.  My block says Spring Chain rather than Autumn...hasn't helped to bring Spring here yet, though!
Lastly, I thought I would include a picture of my feedsack bouquet basket since it was in the top picture.  The basket was made by my Aunt Karen and the feedsacks are the few lovelies I have collected.

Sigh, the rest of the room is far too big of a mess to show as I have been just completely tearing it apart to clean and sort!!

I'll be linking up here at Sew Fresh Quilts.
